CALM BEFORE THE STORM
Kevin Morales
Idea: The idea was to capture the raw intensity and quiet determination of an athlete. playing with light and shadows, I focused on creating a dramatic, timeless image that reflects the mental and physical preparation behind every moment of competition.
Materials: DSLR camera, 70-200mm telephoto lens F2.8, Adobe photoshop
Process: I chose a low angle and waited for a natural moment of focus. Using strong backlight, I emphasized shadows and contours to add emotion and depth. The final touch was converting the image to black and white for timeless impact and visual storytelling.

Materials: Photography and Photoshop
Process: The photo was taken during golden hour to capture a soft, natural light. A low angle shot was used for closeness and Photoshopped distracting background errors. Lowered exposure was added for more shadows to symbolize growth and inner reflection.

Materials: Pentax K1000 film camera, LomoChrome turquoise film.
Process: My friend Austin was trying this switch pole jam when we were out skating. I knew I wanted to capture it, and decided to take it from below. I followed the rule of thirds for my composition, framing him on the right side.

GUARDIAN OF THE GOLDEN HOUR
Cadeo Scott-Schipper
Idea: My idea behind this photo was initially to take a photo of a crab at sunset with the sun directly behind it to utilize backlighting and the smooth background.
Materials: Canon EOS 7D Mark II body, Canon 300mm f/4 lens, Lightroom for editing
Process: I laid down into the sand to become eye level with the crab, and overexposed my camera settings to emphasize the sunset lighting and took the photo. In editing, I brightened up the crab to separate it from the background and to make the sunset lighting more realistic.

CHIAROSCURO
Brenna Williamson
Idea: My idea behind this photo was to create a piece which highlights the contrast between lightness and darkness. I wanted the subject to be in a dark space with their face being illuminated by a type of light. This causes the image to have an almost mysterious undertone and fits my idea exactly as I imagined.
Materials: Cannon EOS Rebel T7 camera, mirror ball fairy lights
Process: My process for creating this photo first started out with trying different poses with the lights before settling on the one in the photo. I had the subject swing the lights over her face to create an uneven yet interesting lighting on her face. I also used rule of thirds to make the piece more compelling.

YOUTH OF NAUSEA
Alyssa Corona
Idea: I want to display punk in its most raw form.Through the unrestrained aggression and carefree attitude, self-expression and staying true to yourself is prominent in keeping punk alive. The driving force of this anger and passion from the scene is inherently the outcome of a poised system we are forced to live under.
Materials: Canon EOS Rebel T6, Canon EOS 6D Mark II
Process: N/A

FEMME FATALE
Angelique De La Cruz
Idea: My idea was to capture dramatic portraits of my model, and reveal her confidence through them. I intended to add props like the flashy coat, which helped add to the drama of the photo, and to exemplify her sense of style. I wanted my model to be able to express herself.
Materials: I used a black backdrop, 3 stand up lights, an extra person helping me by waving a fan to her face, a Canon EOS R6 Mark ii, and my model used a fur coat and a fake cigarette for props.
Process: I started off getting some black and white headshots of my model, and I wanted some proper stage lighting so I used lighting equipment and turned up the brightness on all of them. She had a big fancy coat as a possible prop so we decided to get some shots with that, because I liked how it gave the photos an old 50s Hollywood look.

LA HABRA

INTERWORKING OF SKATE
Cash Christie

I wanted to put a twist on it and incorporate skateboarding because that was my original idea. Although I still had to figure out how to arrange them.
Materials: Light pad, skateboard products such as bearings, a wheel, and trucks
Process: My process of this piece started when I trying to arrange the skateboard products so they look how I want them to look. I wanted to arrange the products in the order they are meant to be assembled. I wanted to use a light pad as the background cause I felt that it would simplify the objects very well.

SONORA

OVERSHADOWED
Benjamin Rubio
Idea: The streets of LA often reflect the class and societal composition of our city. In Overshadowed, I illustrated the oppressive and dark nature of how the major highways and oppressive architecture have overshadowed the people who are often living in poverty conditions.
Materials: Digital Photography
Process: For my dyptich, I researched locations through using Google Maps' streetview. Once I identified a location that connects with my theme, particularly areas with interesting overpasses and freeway architecture. I was interested in the triangular shapes and showing these elements as oppressive through a low angle.

SUNNY HILLS

HER HYDRANGEAS
Isabella Davis
Idea: When I first got the assignment to create a double exposure image, my teacher suggested featuring something I loved in my art. With that, I decided to pay tribute to my late great grandmother in this piece. I found an old photo of her for the base, and decided to incorporate something she loved as my second image; her hydrangeas.
Materials: Adobe Photoshop
Process: To create this piece I layered my two photos, masked and then erased the hydrangeas, then slowly restored the flowers over the parts of the image I wanted them to show. Such as the shadows, clothes, and background. I made the opacity of the hydrangeas more or less in different areas to help better define the parts of the image.

EVENTIDE GLOW
Sarah Wondwosen
Idea: My idea for this artwork was to seamlessly blend two pictures together to create one cohesive piece. I chose to incorporate a scenic image to complement the main one, enhancing the piece visually. Additionally, I went for a simplistic background to ensure the viewer's attention on the central subject.
Materials: Adobe Photoshop
Process: My process started with selecting the images I would use. Using various tools and techniques in Photoshop, I carefully masked the images to blend them together seamlessly. The key part of the process involved using multiple layers and applying blending modes to achieve the desired effects I wanted.

CITYSCAPE OF MEMORIES
Annika Dizon
Idea: My idea was to capture the essence of city life, blending my travels to vibrant urban spaces with the deep connection I feel for cities, having grown up in one. Cities have shaped how I see the world, and this piece reflects the memories and experiences they’ve given me.
Materials: Adobe Photoshop
Process: Creating this piece was both meaningful and challenging, pushing me to explore Adobe Photoshop and step outside my comfort zone. Each layered element reflects cities that shaped me, blending technique, creativity, and emotion to tell a deeply personal story through imagery.

SUNRISE PARABELLUM

SHADOWS OF RESILIENCE

Materials: Rice, Sony Alpha 6400, 18-70 mm Tamron paper
Process: Found a few "farmers" and printed them out. I then cut them out and used rice both representing the field and the wheats. I lowered the exposure, got an additional light for specific lighting
